La Salle's Kelly Scanlon led the Explorers' attack with a match-high 12 kills as the volleyball team fell to Towson, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-17), on Tuesday evening at Tom Gola Arena.

PHILADELPHIA- Kelly Scanlon led the Explorers' attack with a match-high 12 kills as the volleyball team fell to Towson, 3-0, (25-18, 25-19, 25-17) on Tuesday evening at Tom Gola Arena.

Junior Breanna Mazalewski had 14 digs and senior Kourtney Clark managed a match-high 21 assists. Junior Samantha Tulskie also added six kills for the Explorers.

"We're working hard," head coach Dave Stever said. "Our outside hitters are strong this year and we're working to put the pieces together out on the court."

The Blue and Gold fell behind by as many as eight points in the first set, but rallied on the serve of Mazalewski to close the deficit to 16-20.

La Salle was again within four at 22-18 after the Tigers couldn't handle a ball hit over by Scanlon.  The Armonk, N.Y. native would add seven kills during the set.  Towson won the set 25-18 after two straight kills.

In the second set, La Salle took an 8-7 lead after a service ace by Tulskie.  The Tigers then used a 7-1 run to go gain the edge.

However, the Explorers gained some momentum after winning a long rally to close the gap to 20-16 after a Towson attacker hit the ball wide. A kill by senior Jacquelyn Mitrocivh again made it a four point game at 21-17, but La Salle would drop the set 25-19.

Towson came out strong at the start of the third set, taking an early 6-2 lead and going on to win the contest 25-17.

For the Tigers, Aubrey Kirven had 20 assists.  Karolina Sawaniewicz led the Tigers with 10 kills.

The Explorers will be back in action this weekend at the Big 5 Invitational held the Palestra. La Salle will first face Villanova on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
