La Salle's Breanna Mazalewski Named To Big 5 All-Tournament Team; Volleyball Falls To Temple, Penn

PHILADELPHIA - Junior Breanna Mazalewski was La Salle's representative on the Big 5 All-Tournament Team as the Explorers closed out the tournament with a 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 16-25, 16-25) loss to Temple and a 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-22) loss to Penn on Saturday at the Palestra.

Mazalewski added 34 digs and seven service aces across three matches.

Junior Kelly Scanlon also had a good weekend on the court, posting a double-double in every tournament match.

Against Temple, the Explorers took the first set, 25-21, behind five kills by junior Samantha Tulskie.

La Salle couldn't battle back to nab the second set, falling 25-17.

The Owls won the first eight points in the third set and would go on to win that game, as well as the fourth, by identical scores of 25-16.

Scanlon added 12 kills and 12 digs, Mazalewski had 17 digs and three aces and senior Kourtney Clark had 31 assists. The Explorers' hit .216 as a team in the first set.

For Temple, Collin Wallace added 24 kills and 18 digs.

La Salle played a tough match later in the afternoon against Penn.

After struggling in the first set and losing 25-15, the Explorers grinded through the second. They came back from a 14-8 deficit to tie the score at 24-all after a kill by sophomore Rachel Finkbeiner. However, an Explorers' attack error and a Penn kill would give the game to the Quakers.

In the third set, La Salle again played from behind, but closed the deficit to 21-20 but couldn't take the lead, finally falling 25-22.

Scanlon had 10 kills and 13 digs, hitting at .250. Finkbeiner added seven kills. Mazalewski and Tulskie each had seven digs, while Clark had 289 assists.

The Explorers fell behind early during the second set, but worked their way back into the match, getting within one at 23-22

La Salle will return home to Tom Gola Arena to face Farleigh Dickinson on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
