Beer: This week's best beauty hack for beautiful hair
“Humidity had me out here styling my hair with beer this morning & killin’ em!”
"Humidity had me out here styling my hair with beer this morning & killin' em!" It was the first Instagram post since my sorority sister and fellow beauty product junkie, Cathy, had relocated to China for her job. Her smooth and shiny ringlets were swept up neatly atop of her head in the accompanying photo. 59 likes and 11 comments later, she assured everyone that a. she would not be going to work smelling like beer and b. that using beer as a hair treatment conditions your hair and smooths out frizz.
As crazy as it sounds, beer has been used as a beauty treatment long before Cathy shared her frizz-fighting secret on social media. Bloggers, stylists, and even celebrities such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, have sung the praises of using beer to achieve shiny, voluminous hair. Why does it work? The alcohol in beer adds shine, while the proteins in barley and hops are said to help strengthen and condition hair.
