As amazing as it was to see a clutch athlete named Howard, Team USA's run in the World Cup has come to an end, losing a heartbreaking 2-1 match against Belgium

But, as luck would have it, there may be another up-and-coming soccer team here at home these johnny-come-latelys can turn their attention to - the Philadelphia Union.

Yes, I know the Union are currently just 7th place in the Eastern Conference, and have managed just four wins out of 17 games. But under interim manager Jim Curtin, they seem to be turning the corner at just the right time.

The Union are coming of an impressive road victory against the New England Revolution, and are unbeaten in its last three league games. They're 5-2-1 in their last eight matches, and have scored a whopping 14 goals in just their last five games (they managed just 16 goals in their first 14 games).

More importantly, at the halfway point of the season, the Union are within just one point of fifth-placed New York for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

So will American World Cup fans skip work and start cheering for the Union?

Nah, probably not, even though it'd be more entertaining that watching the Phillies.
