WWE brought SummerSlam back to the east coast for the first time since 2007 this year and wasted little in announcing that it will stay here through at least 2017 on Monday morning.
Like this year, WWE will take over the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. for three consecutive nights in 2016 and 2017.
In 2016, SummerSlam is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 21 while an NXT event is slated for the night before on Saturday, Aug. 20. The weekend wraps up with an episode of Monday Night Raw on Monday, Aug. 22.
The same goes for 2017, as SummerSlam is slated for Sunday, Aug. 20, an NXT event is set for Saturday, Aug. 19 and the trio of events end with Raw on Monday, Aug. 21.
"We are thrilled to build on the success of the 2015 SummerSlam and welcome WWE back to Brooklyn in 2016 and 2017. Big events like SummerSlam help cement in New York City's appeal as a dynamic, high-energy destination," said New York mayor Bill de Blasio in a statement. "We're thankful for WWE's commitment to Brooklyn, and look forward to a long partnership that benefits the city."
"We're excited to be hosting WWE SummerSlam for the next two years," said Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark in a statement. "We had an incredible experience this past August and are looking forward to continuing our partnership with WWE and NYC & Company."
"Barclays Center, NYC & Company and the city of New York have been incredible partners to WWE, and we are pleased that SummerSlam Week will once again take over New York City in August of 2016 and 2017," said John P. Saboor, WWE Executive Vice President, Special Events in a statement. "We look forward to building on the success of this year's event to take SummerSlam week to even greater heights."
