Casting a new-age Four Horseman using current WWE roster
On the most recent episode of Jim Ross' podcast titled The Ross Report, he asked his guest J.J. Dillon, famously known as the manager of The Four Horseman, if he could cast a current-day version of the illustrious group.
Dillon said that he couldn't provide an answer to the intriguing question, and who could blame him? That's a question that is very tough to answer because calling up four names to carry the legacy of the iconic group is no small task.
But that's what I'm here for — to provide answers to the tough questions. So, what if the WWE decided to bring back The Four Horseman with members of its current roster? Who would make the cut?
Now, this will be my take on who would be worthy of being christened a new-age Four Horseman. You could put your best foursome together in the comment section below.
The way I put this together was by following the same model that the old group was made up of, but with a modern spin. The top guy was Ric Flair, so the man leading this new group would need a ton of charisma and the ability to put on great matches with virtually anyone.
Then, we would need someone worthy of filling the Barry Windham/Lex Luger role. If you were going by the original group, Tully Blanchard would have occupied this spot.
This guy would have to be very good in the ring and would be worthy of carrying either the Intercontinental or United States Championship. He would also need his share of charisma, but not to the point that he would overshadow the top guy.
The last two spots would preferably be a tag team since Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard/Ole Anderson typically spent most of their time in tag team matches together.
These last two spots are kind of tricky, but you would definitely need someone to fill the enforcer role of Arn Anderson.
Before I get to my new cast, I must say, this is merely me fantasy booking. I did not want to go with very obvious answers. I did not want to go with the top four guys in the business either. I went with four guys that are relatively young, that could live up to the Four Horseman lifestyle in and out of the ring and that would compliment each other well.
With that said, let's roll them out.
Introducing the new Four Horseman:
Ric Flair of the group: Dolph Ziggler
This was an easy choice for me. Besides bearing a resemblance to a young Nature Boy, Ziggler could handle the role of being the leader of the group very well.
Flair was fantastic in the ring. Ziggler has that base covered. Flair was gold on the microphone. Ziggler could definitely hold his own when it comes to cutting promos. Flair was also the man outside of the ring. I'm certain Ziggler could handle himself around the ladies.
Ziggler wants the pressure of being the man and he would get his wish in this role.
Barry Windham/Lex Luger of the group: Cesaro
I had to think a little for this one, but it didn't take me that long to settle on Cesaro to fill this spot.
Cesaro is one of the most talented wrestlers in the world and being the holding the Intercontinental or United States title while Ziggler holds the top title just feels right to me.
I think the two could compliment each other very well. Ziggler is as athletically gifted as anyone I've ever seen in a wrestling ring while Cesaro's raw power brings the yin to Ziggler's yang.
Arn Anderson/Tully Blanchard of the group: Big E & Kofi Kingston
Now, before you place your palm on your face, hear me out. I know this seems a little farfetched given that these two haven't been seen on television in months, but I believe these two would fit very well into these roles and would also put a different spin on the group's legacy.
In order to fill these spots, you need a good tag team. I know that The Usos and other teams are available, but I don't think the available teams would fit into the new Four Horseman. Could you imagine Goldust and Stardust in the group? Yeah, I didn't think so.
You have a good tag team with Big E's strength and Kingston's athleticism, but you also have two black men in the Horseman, which has never been done. Not to mention, they are young, hip and would fit the role of a current-day version of the group.
Big E would play the role of Arn Anderson as the enforcer and Kingston would obviously be the Blanchard.
This is just my view on things. I'm certain yours would be different, so let me know your group in the comments below.
