Vikings executive says WrestleMania is headed to Minnesota; WWE denies claim
Minnesota Vikings vice president of public affairs Lester Bagley inadvertently said that a future WrestleMania was coming to U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, which is set to open in time for the 2016 NFL season.
In a video on the Vikings web site, Bagley talked about the events that have already been scheduled to emanate from the venue, including the Super Bowl in 2018 and the NCAA men's Final Four in 2019.
But Bagley also said that WrestleMania was going to be there without giving a specific date.
"Before the building is even open we have already secured the Super Bowl in 2018, the NCAA basketball Final Four in 2019, we are a finalist and seem to be in pretty good position to secure the college football playoffs, the BCS championship game, you know we've got WrestleMania coming," Bagley said.
This may come as bad news to Philadelphia wrestling fans, as the executive director of the Philadelphia Sports Congress, Larry Needle, told philly.com back in January that the city was "very interested" in bringing WrestleMania to Lincoln Financial Field.
However, Philadelphians can breathe a slight sigh of relief as ProWrestling.net received a statement from WWE saying that Bagley's statement isn't quite true.
"Minneapolis is one of many cities that has expressed an interest in hosting a future WrestleMania. Beyond WrestleMania in Dallas, Texas on April 3, 2016, locations for future WrestleMania's have not been announced."
