WWE NXT results and observations (11/16/16): Almas vs. Alexander

Although the bulk of this week's episode of NXT was dedicated to video packages for the matches scheduled for NXT Takeover: Toronto, the show still managed to produce one of the better television matches NXT has put out in a long while.

That contest was a grudge match between Cedric Alexander and Andrade "Cien" Almas in a battle between former tag team partners turned enemies when Almas turned his back on Alexander after losing in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Almas and Alexander had very good chemistry together in their brief time together as a team, but showcased even more of it as opponents Wednesday night, as they put together a very entertaining match.

Almas especially stood out with his new villainous persona that has allowed him to be more aggressive and arrogant. He seems more comfortable playing that role.

It seems as though that Almas' new persona will have some legs, as he defeated Alexander.

Elsewhere on the program, Liv Morgan finally received some backup in her battle against Peyton Royce and Billie Kay in the form of Aliyah and Ember Moon.

Morgan was in the middle of a match with Royce when Kay jumped into the ring and interfered. Royce and Kay then double-teamed Morgan, which brought out Aliyah to even the odds.

Unfortunately for Aliyah, she didn't fare much better. However, this brought out Moon, who took down both Royce and Kay all by herself. In an interview backstage makeshift trio of Moon, Morgan and Aliyah challenged Royce and Kay to find a third so that both sides could go at it.

Elias Samson finally returned from injury with a victory over Nathan Cruz. Although Samson has been out of the ring for months, it felt like he never left, as he was met with a chorus of boos from the fans at Full Sail.

Here are the full match results:

- Liv Morgan def. Peyton Royce via disqualification

- Elias Samson def. Nathan Cruz

- Andrade "Cien" Almas def. Cedric Alexander
