WWE NXT results and observations (12/21/16): A glorious No. 1 contender

A new No. 1 contender for the NXT championship has been determined and it happened in glorious fashion.

Bobby Roode defeated Tye Dillinger, Andrade "Cien" Almas and Roderick Strong in a fatal four-way elimination match to become the new No. 1 contender to the NXT championship on this week's episode of NXT.

With the win, Roode is now slated to face NXT champion Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Takeover: San Antonio in January.

The first man eliminated Wednesday night was Almas after he received a sick kick from Strong. Strong did not last much longer, as Dillinger hit him with the Tye breaker to send him to the showers.

With Strong's elimination, it left Dillinger and Roode in a rematch of sorts from their encounter at NXT Takeover: Toronto. Unfortunately for Dillinger, history repeated itself, as Roode got the better of him once again to become No. 1 contender.

Other than this match, not much else of note happened on this show. Billie Kay and Payton Royce got the better of Daria Barenato again and the Authors of Pain easily toppled another pair of enhancement talents.

With that said, here are the full match results:

- Billie Kay def. Daria Berenato

- Authors of Pain def. Anthony Bowens & John Ortagun

- Elimination match – Bobby Roode def. Tye Dillinger, Andrade "Cien" Almas & Roderick Strong
