WWE NXT results and observations (5/31/17): Why, Tommaso Ciampa? Why?
Tommaso Ciampa explained himself, business picked up in the women's division and a wrestler with a knack for dancing returned to save the day on this week's episode of NXT.
We begin with Ciampa, who explained why he turned his back on his former tag team partner and friend, Johnny Gagrano, at NXT Takeover: Chicago back on May 20.
Ciampa said that the fans are the ones that broke up his team with Gargano, as they were the ones that were so quick to replace him in #DIY's ladder match against the Authors of Pain at Takeover once news broke that Ciampa had suffered an ankle injury in the days leading up to the event.
Ciampa then revealed that he suffered a serious knee injury during the ladder match and realized before the contest was over that it was going sideline him for significant length of time.
Ciampa figured that Gargano would have replaced him anyway because of the injury, so he figured he'd beat Gargano to the punch.
I thought Ciampa was borderline masterful with this promo and actually managed to get a good portion of the fans of Full Sail to boo him, which is sort of surprising since a lot of the diehard fans that attend NXT shows think highly of Ciampa's work as a heel before he joined NXT.
It is a shame that Ciampa will be forced to sit out due to his knee injury, as it will halt all of the momentum he had gathered from NXT Takeover: Chicago and this week's episode of NXT.
Hopefully, he can make a full comeback and pick up where he left off.
Meanwhile, the women's division got quite interesting Wednesday when it was announced that Asuka will defend her NXT Women's championship against Ruby Riot an Nikki Cross in a triple threat elimination match in two weeks.
Elsewhere on the show, NXT aired a video involving Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, where it was revealed that Ember Moon was medically cleared to compete again.
The main event of the show was a tag team match with Sanity members Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe going up against Roderick Strong and Kassius Ohno.
The third male member of Sanity, Killian Dain, accompanied his comrades to the ring and attempted to interfere in the match, but No Way Jose made a surprise return to thwart the big man, which led to Strong and Ohno picking up the victory.
Here are the full match results:
- Pete Dunne vs. Danny Burch
- Cesar Bononi def. Andrade "Cien" Almas
- Roderick Strong & Kassius Ohno def. Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe
