WWE Survivor Series 2014: Last-minute predictions for each match
For the 28th time, the WWE will present its second-longest running pay-per-view event, Survivor Series.
This event has seen a number of memorable happenings throughout its near three decades in its existence, and despite being nearly taken off the WWE calendar a couple of years ago, the event is still alive and kicking.
Will this year's offering live up to the event's history and lore? Well, if the last several Survivor Series are any indication, it probably won't.
With WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar not scheduled to compete, it will mark the first time since 2006 that a world championship will not be defended at the event.
But that's not the reason this show won't live up to its predecessors. That will more than likely be due to a lack of build for the overall card.
The WWE has done a good job of building intrigue around the main event and put some effort into building the semi main event. Whether you like how it was done is a different story, but there was an effort.
The rest of the card, however, has largely nothing going for it.
With that said, there are predictions that have to be made, and here are mine for Survivor Series, which takes place at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.:
P.S.: Yes, I've seen the Sting reports. I'll believe that when I see it.
Traditional Survivor Series match – Team Cena (John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, Big Show, Erick Rowan & Ryback) vs. Team Authority (Seth Rollins, Mark Henry, Rusev, Luke Harper & Kane)
The WWE did a good job of not tipping its hand when it came to this match until this past week. Coming into this week, the WWE did a solid job of making this match as much of a toss up as possible.
With no real consequences for Team Cena losing, it was definitely plausible to happen.
However, the WWE announced this week that if Team Cena does lose, every member of the team would be fired with the exception of Cena.
Now it comes to what is more likely: The Authority losing its power or Ziggler, Rowan, Big Show and Ryback all being canned in storyline.
I don't see the latter happening. Firing four guys in one fell swoop would seem sort of odd, and I don't know that it would do Cena any favors if he's the last guy standing in the aftermath.
I guess stranger things have happened, but I'm going with Team Cena to come out on top and for The Authority to finally lose its power, which is a good thing.
What won't be a good thing is what could happen to Rusev. If The Authority loses, that means he has to be eliminated in some fashion. He could be disqualified, which would be kind of lame, but it would save him from being pinned.
Keep an eye out for a Randy Orton sigting. St. Louis is his hometown afterall. Also, keep an eye out for Sheamus.
Prediction: Team Cena def. Team Authority
Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt
The build for this match has been lukewarm at best. It certainly isn't nearly as hot as it was when it kicked off at Hell in a Cell, and even that left a bad taste in some people's mouths.
I think the match itself will be good, and I think Ambrose will earn the victory.
I know, I know, Wyatt losing only does even more damage to his character, but I think Ambrose has done fantastic work since The Shield broke up, especially lately, and deserves a big win here.
Prediction: Dean Ambrose def. Bray Wyatt
WWE Divas Championship – AJ Lee (c) vs. Nikki Bella
This Bella Twins' storyline has played out mostly as I expected and that's a good thing.
The only problem is that it has been uneventful and has generated very little heat or sympathy for Brie Bella, which is pretty much the point of the angle.
To help give this feud some new life, I think the WWE will put the Divas title on Nikki Bella to give it some more legs.
Plus, Nikki Bella has done a good job as a heel and has earned a run with the title.
Prediction: Nikki Bella WINS the Divas Championship
WWE Tag Team Championship – Goldust & Stardust (c) vs. Los Matadores vs. The Miz & Damien Mizdow vs. The Usos
There's only one tag team I care about in this match and that's The Miz and Damien Mizdow, and I really only care about Mizdow.
It's not to say that the other teams aren't talented because they are, but the WWE hasn't done much in the way of getting the fans to become emotionally invested in them.
People are invested in Mizdow, which is why I believe that he and The Miz will win the tag titles.
The act has gotten over more than anyone could have expected and it would make a ton of sense to put the titles on a team that's already over rather than to put the titles on a team hoping they will get them over.
Prediction: The Miz & Damien Mizdow WIN the Tag Team Championship
Traditional Survivor Series match – Natalya, Naomi, Alicia Fox & Emma vs. Paige, Cameron, Summer Rae & Layla
Not much to speak of here, and because of that I'm going with the babyface team.
Prediction: Natalya, Naomi, Alicia Fox & Emma def. Paige, Cameron, Summer Rae & Layla
