It would have been enough of an upset if Herediano had simply beaten Club América by a one-goal margin to kick off their CONCACAF Champions League semifinal series. But the Costa Rican club did much more than that to the Mexican powerhouse.

Thanks in no small part to a 27th-minute red card issued to América midfielder Michael Arroyo, Herediano thumped Las Aguilas by s 3-0 margin. Now the stage is set for a fascinating return leg at Estadio Azteca next Tuesday.

Here are the highlights:

Herediano 3, Club América 0

Herediano: Esteban Ramirez 53', Yendrick Ruiz 69', Jonathan Hansen 82'
