Philadelphia Union player salaries: Oka Nikolov, Fabinho, Gilberto's pay revealed

The latest round of salary data has ben released by the Major League Soccer Players Union. Here is the Philadelphia Union's payroll as of this month. This means we now know the salaries for the team's summer signings: goalkeeper Oka Nikolov, defender Fabinho and mifdfielder Gilberto da Silva.

The first number is base salary and the second is guaranteed compensation. I have noted where numbers have changed since the last figures were released in May.

The only player who departed the Union's roster since May was defender Bakary Soumaré. That removed a base salary of $310,000.00 and a guaranteed compensation figure of $350,000.00 from the payroll.

Add back in the summer signings and the net change in the Union's payroll is a $176,320.00 decreased in base salary and a $188,932.50 decrease in guaranteed compensation.

The Union's total payroll right now is $3,322,942.00 in base salary and $3,643,642.00 in guaranteed compensation.

Note that these numbers include the salaries of players on loan from MLS teams to international teams. Such players include Carlos Valdés (Philadelphia), Fredy Montero (Seattle) and Álvaro Fernández (Chicago).

De Rosario is not a Designated Player, even though his salary is above the threshold of $368,750. D.C. United is paying down his cap hit with allocation money.

Dempsey, Díaz and Godoson arrived during the summer transfer window. I'm sure Goodson's salary will be of interest to some of you given his status with the U.S. national team, and his decision to return to MLS to get more playing time ahead of next year's World Cup.

Last month. MLS announced that it had established "Retention Funds" which gave teams an extra shot of cash to re-sign important players. During this past offseason, each team was given $225,000 to spend over a three-year period for this purpose.

Players who receive the money will have a portion of their salaries exempted from the cap budget. Teams can also choose to not spend the money and instead trade it in a manner similar to allocation money.
