U.S. Open Cup third round draw: Union to face Ocean City

Third round games will take place on Tuesday, May 28 and Wednesday, May 29.

Updated with the results of the second-round games, and confirmed third round matchups.

The complete third round draw is laid out below. It's worth noting that there are two matchups between MLS teams and their USL Pro affiliates: D.C. at Richmond and New England at Rochester.

That isn't a good thing. It may reduce travel costs, but it raises the potential for conflict of interest with players loaned from MLS teams to their USL Pro brethren.

Nonetheless, the Open Cup rules permit matchups between MLS and USL Pro affiliates. The only matchups that are not allowed (for as long as possible depending on how far they advance) are those between the senior and youth teams of the same organization. I explained those relationships in my post on the second round draw, which you can read here.

Third round games will take place on Tuesday, May 28 and Wednesday, May 29. I will be out of the country that week, as I'm taking a vacation between covering the Union's games Montréal and Toronto. So unfortunately I won't be able to get to any games.

(You can probably guess where I'll be spending the time.)

As always, the best place for Open Cup coverage is TheCup.us. The site needs your support, especially on game nights.
