12 great Philly comedy shows to see in August (besides Seinfeld at the Borgata)
Here in the Philadelphia area, we’ve got a slew of great comedians coming through for some performances throughout August.
Jerry Seinfeld is playing the Borgata on Friday and Saturday, but at $95 to $165, tickets are a little pricey. Cheap laughs, after all, are important.
Philadelphia-area comedy fans, however, can take heart. We've got a slew of great comedians coming through for some performances throughout August.
We Philadelphians can face the end of summer laughing instead of sinking into a deep winter-is-coming-style depression. And after a particularly busy 2016 season, we're going to need it:

Philly boy Big Jay Oakerson's first hour-long special premiered earlier this summer on Comedy Central. Now, he returns to his old stomping grounds for a night at Helium. Described by the New York Times as the "poet laureate for penis jokes," Oakerson is not to be missed.

Known for his incredible stable of impressions that includes everyone from R2-D2 to Celine Dion, this '90s Mad TV cast member will bring his energetic act to Philly's newest comedy venue as he works on a new one-hour special dubbed "Here We Go Again."

Girl Code star and Jersey girl Nicole Byer, who is about to to be the star of her own MTV show, joins best friend Saturday Night Live cast member Sasheer Zamata for the Spice Wurld Comedy Tour, where they'll bring the chemistry that made their Pursuit of Sexiness webseries a must-see to the stage. Byer's fellow Girl Code star Matteo Lane provides opening support, as does frequent Comedy Central collaborator Liza Treyger.

Passaic, NJ's Bret Ernst heads to the Punch Line for several nights' worth of sets in place of canceled act Deon Cole. Known for his "Roller Skating Bit," Ernst first rose to prominence as part of Vince Vaughn's 2006 Wild West Comedy Show.

You may have missed Philly native Bob Saget when he was at the Borgata in July, but now is your chance to see the Full House star in his home state. The Dirty Daddy himself will bring his raunchy act to quiet Bethlehem for one night only, and don't expect him to tone it down.

Known these days mostly for his role as the pompous pot-smoking Erlich Bachman on HBO's Silicon Valley, comedian T.J. Miller hasn't let up on his stand-up. This month, the Yogi Bear star brings his act to Philly as part of his "Meticulously Ridiculous" tour with support from Kate Miller and Nick Vatterott.

Christopher Titus' fantastic eponymous Fox TV show, Titus, may be long gone — it was canceled in 2002 over creative differences — but the man's honest, unflinching comedy remains. Currently, Titus hosts the weekly "Titus Podcast," which is available on iTunes.

Hannibal Buress is now back on Adult Swim with season four of the Eric Andre Show, and he'll be back in Atlantic City at the end of the month as part of his "Hannibal Montanabal Experience" tour. Currently, Buress' newest special, Comedy Camisado, is streaming on Netflix.
