All about the animals: The Greater Philadelphia Pet Expo returns to Oaks

Barks, chirps, slithers, and more will take front stage in Oaks as the Greater Philadelphia Pet Expo makes its way to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center (100 Station Ave.) from Friday, Jan 9. through Sunday, Jan 11 and will feature beloved pets of all types.

Here is the breakdown of the events with show times so you don't get your tail all twisted.

Flyball Demonstration

Flyball is pretty much fetching gone wild. Kicking off the expo this year you will see dogs run at incredible speeds over hurdles leading to a box that releases a ball, resulting in them running back to the starting line with the ball.

The demonstration starts on Friday at 4 p.m. and contests will run all day Saturday and Sunday.

Rainforest Reptile Show

Curator Michael Ralbovsky and show director Joaney Gallagher invite guests to get up close and personal with their vast selection of cold-blooded reptiles such as crocodiles, snakes, lizards, and others who occupy the natural habitat. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the educational show.

Performances will take place on the stage Friday at 4:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 8:15 p.m.; Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m.; and Sunday at 11 a.m., 4 p.m.

Gail Mirabella and the Dynamo Dogs

Dog trainer/entertainer Gail Mirabella and her talented team of dogs will perform their incredible act, which shows off Frisbee tricks, acrobatic moves, disc catching, and more, throughout the weekend-long event.

Performances will take place in the Dog Ring Friday at 5 p.m., 7 p.m.; Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 11:30 a.m., 1:15 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

Cat Agility Demonstrations

Cats can be so unpredictable at times and it's not every day you see a well-trained cat -- or cats. This exhibit will take the felines through a course full of obstacles, making them jump and swerve through hoops and tunnels while chasing a toy.

Performances will take place at the Cat Course Friday at 5:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m.; and Sunday at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6 p.m.

Debbie DeSantis - Dog Training Demonstration

Is your new pup still being a little pest after numerous training attempts? Debbie DeSantis, owner of Going to the Dogs Obedience Training, will be present at the expo and will demonstrate and share her techniques on how to better control your dog. From basic training tips such as "give me your paw" and more advanced ones such as tricks will be covered through each session.

Demonstrations will take place at the Dog Ring Friday at 6 p.m., 8 p.m. and Saturday at noon, 2:45 p.m.

Delco Bird Club

Wings will flap and information will be told about several birds of different species as the Delco Bird club will present information about taking care of birds and their diets they require for care.

The conversation will take place on the stage Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Parade of Breeds

Attention all purebred dogs, you're needed. Owners of purebred breed dogs are invited to join a special parade featuring purebreds. Dogs under six months of age are not permitted to walk, sorry pups.

The parade is on Saturday at 4:15 p.m.

Alpaca Area

Alpaca you with some information real quick: Throughout the expo, check out these fluffy and friendly animals that can be mixed up with the other similar animal, the llama. Guests will see all different ages of the breed, as well as quirky tricks and traits that the animals will put on throughout the day.

The animals are located at the Illusion Ranch Alpaca Arena and are scheduled to be there all weekend long.

Besides the scheduled attractions, exhibitors will be on site selling all types of goods. From pet supplies to new additions to your home, there will certainly be a vendor for you.

Wondering if you can bring your pet to the event? You are welcomed to, but they must be on a leash and a signed waiver form is required.

Hours are Friday 4 p.m.–9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–7 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
