Kids To Do: The nephew of a reggae legend gets kids wiggling
Jack and Kitty
Colonial Theatre, 227 Bridge St., Phoenixville.
2 p.m. Saturday, $6.50; ages 2 and younger free
The duo Jack and Kitty call their sound "organic vaudeville folk," and it can get kids of all ages up and stomping like a dinosaur, mooing like a cow, and wiggling like a glow worm.
It's no wonder: Her uncle is reggae legend Bunny Wailer (he was in a little band with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh you may have heard of). His childhood babysitter was Tiny Tim of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" fame. Together, they helped create The Zinghoppers Show on PBS.
The high-school sweethearts are to perform Saturday at the Colonial Theater. Go wiggle!
Umbrella Adventure
Overbrook Educational Center, 6134 Lancaster Ave.
12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday, $12 per child accompanied by an adult (includes umbrella).
Hey, did you know it's National Umbrella Month?
OK, maybe we adults don't appreciate the showers, but any kid splashing in a puddle knows where it's at. Maybe we can remember how to dig the rain the way they do while accompanying them to Umbrella Adventure at Overbrook Educational Center.
Participants can have fun decorating an umbrella and then use it during a nature stroll, followed by a warm cocoa. Mmmm ... let it rain.
The Tale of Princess Kaguya
International House, 3701 Chestnut St.
2 p.m. Saturday, $5.
Japan's most famous folk story, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, is retold by Studio Ghibli genius Isao Takahata in a gorgeous, hand-drawn, animated 2013 feature.
A tiny girl is found hidden in a reed by a bamboo cutter and his wife. They adopt her, and as she grows, they soon begin to find treasures in the forest as well. Taking this as sign she is royalty, they bring her to the capital to claim her place. But the truth is strange and sad. (This one may be a bit intense for the younger set, and best for those 10 and older.)
