Morgan's Pier opens its (out)doors for the season

Every year around this time, I get irrationally excited for the opening of Morgan’s Pier.

Every year around this time, I get irrationally excited for the opening of Morgan's Pier.

I use the word irrationally in italics here…although really, it's perfectly rational to be psyched to spend time at MP, our go-to hang for refreshing drinks, waterfront views, and oh yeah—free/cheap music all summer long.

This year, R5 Productions will continue booking free shows on Wednesday nights; bands announced so far include Tampa post-punkers Merchandise (on June 26) and British psych-rockers Temples (on August 6). The venue's also upped its DJ game, with big names like Booka Shade (spinning May 25) and Claude Van Stroke (spinning June 13), bringing cool, summertime vibes to the Delaware. It all kicks off this Thursday, May 1, with a super fun opening night party featuring Philly DJ Greg D. (aka Greg Droggitis), and all the Watermelon Rickys you can drink.

A veteran musician and mix-master for 5 years now, Droggitis combines old-skool funk and soul with Italian disco and tropical vibes for your perfect summer party soundtrack. See you there Philly!

9:00 at Morgan's Pier, 221 N. Columbus Blvd., free.
