#PhillyFive Things to Do: Dec. 23, 2014

We’re closing in on prime celebrating season.

We're closing in on prime celebrating season.

For fun science: It's a winter no-brainer: Water turns into ice when it gets cold. Kids can learn more about states and science — and even make their own snow globe to take home at Fairmount Water Works' (640 Waterworks Dr.) two-hour sci-session, starting at 10 a.m.

For the outdoorsy types: If the chill weather doesn't get you down, join up with other likeminded (read: crazy. Kidding!) folks for a winter trail walk at Peace Valley Nature Center (170 Chapman Rd., Doylestown, Pa.) departing at 1:30 p.m.

For a tourney: For one day only, local youth basketball teams will face off in a tournament, starting at 3 p.m. at the Wildwoods Convention Center (5401 Boardwalk, Wildwood, N.J.).

For a farmers market: You thought these were over, didn't you. Think again. Snipes Farm and Education Center (890 W. Bridge St., Morrisville, Pa.) will vend two excellent P's — produce and pies — from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. as a part of their Christmas Farmers Market.

For a holiday: Eight nights, eight beers. Devil's Den (1148 S. 11th St.) serves up eight beers from Shmaltz Brewing Company like barrel aged Rejewvanator, Funky Jewbalation 14 and Hop Manna along with latkes and gelts. Get there at 7 p.m. to take advantage of all the holiday bliss. Dreidel included.
