Six Flags Great Adventure adds new ‘The Joker’ roller coaster

Six Flags Great Adventure has added another roller coaster to its collection, bringing the total to 14.

Six Flags Great Adventure has added another roller coaster to its collection, bringing the total to 14.

The Jackson, N.J. theme park on Thursday began offering to season pass holders previews of The Joker, a "4-D, free-fly" coaster that promises to live up to the DC Comics villain's name.

Featuring a 120-foot, 90-degree hill, multiple loops, and two "raven" drops built beyond 90 degrees, the coaster is advertised as "the most insane" in Six Flags' arsenal. The ride will have room for eight riders per vehicle, and five vehicles total — plus, riders will be able to face one another on the ride.

The coaster was previously announced in September 2015 as "Total Mayhem," but took on a Joker theme in January this year. In a release, Six Flags wrote that the coaster's comic book villain namesake "was secretly plotting to take over" the ride the whole time.

"The Joker is undeniably one of the greatest DC Comics super-villains ever created," said Six Flags president John Fitzgerald via a release. "Only someone with his warped sense of humor could provide this level of insanity."

The preview The Joker for season pass holders will run through Friday. The general public will be able to ride beginning Saturday.
