Stay up late during Fringe Festival with free, late-night bar shows
As if the entertainment lineup for this year’s Fringe Festival weren’t rich enough already, FringeArts has just announced the schedule for free, late-night performances for those who can’t get enough.
As if the entertainment lineup for this year's Fringe Festival weren't rich enough already, FringeArts has just announced the schedule for free, late-night performances for those who can't bear to head home for the night. Stay for the show after the show during the duration of the Fringe Festival on select evenings at FringeArts' waterfront home.
It all starts on the festival's opening night, Friday, Sept. 5, at 11:30 p.m. on the FringeArts Stage with the Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret: the ever-popular drag variety show, hosted by Miss Martha Graham Cracker herself. This performance features some help from members of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
The following night, Saturday, Sept. 6, two-thirds (Dennis Diamond and Daryl Hannah, to be exact) of quirky magic trio Elephant Room grace the stage at La Peg at 10 p.m. for your standard disappearing and levitation acts but with kooky personality.
Back on the FringeArts Stage at 11:30 p.m., also on Saturday, Sept. 6, is genre-blending, boundary-pushing drag rapper Christeene.
On Sunday, Sept. 7, cellist Maya Beiser puts a different spin on rock classics from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana and more at 9 p.m. on the FringeArts Stage.
A number from Ballet X's most recent performance, Sunset, o639 Hours, "The Sunset Club," composed by Rosie Langabeer, can be heard at 10 p.m. at La Peg on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Come back the next night, Thursday, Sept. 11, as actors from the Pig Iron School for Advanced Performance Training will show off what they've been working on during an evening of cabaret at 10 p.m. at La Peg. Stay for The Only Band in Illyria from Pig Iron's production of "Twelfth Night" for some Balkan tunes to carry you later into the evening. Their set begins at 11:30 p.m.
Brooklyn rapper, Champagne Jerry, the rap moniker of Beastie Boys' Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz collaborator Neal Medlyn, brings his crude lyrics and self-affirming rhymes to the La Peg stage at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12.
Two bands are set to bring the grooves on Saturday, Sept. 13 at La Peg: Philly funk-R&B outfit Red 40 and the Last Groovement, and Puerto Rican party band El Malito and the 33rd Century set the night on fire starting at 10 p.m.
Performance artist Adrienne Truscott is "asking for it" in this one-woman comedy that takes difficult topics and makes them humorous. Truscott takes the FringeArts Stage at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
A double dose of girl-power performance begins at 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19. The evening starts with a punctual variety show from Brussels-based dancer Eleanor Bauer that lasts an hour. Afterward, hear your favorite Dolly Parton hits from Brooklyn's Doll Parts, a Parton cover band. It all goes down on the FringeArts Stage.
Fringe Festival alums The Wilhelm Brothers come back for two performances on Saturday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept 21 for 10 p.m. folk-rock goodness (with some expected special guests) on the FringeArts Stage. After their set on Saturday, stay for eight-piece soul group Johnny Showcase & the Mystic Ticket for a psychedelic end to the day.
