Setting — and sticking to — your New Year's resolutions is far more difficult than the mindless act of claiming "New year, new me." However, by making your goals feel more like fun and less like work can help you see them through to next December. So instead of hunkering down indoors, why not try to bump up your energy and get some unexpected benefits? Like a little culture. Here are four ways to get moving and learn a few things about the city, the arts, and more.

These guided tours are great for a trim waistline and wallet. Free Tours By Foot offer name-your-price walking tours in a variety of distances throughout the city, but the real winner is a trek held on Saturdays that takes visitors from Washington Square to City Hall, the Masonic Temple, Reading Terminal Market, and everywhere in between. By then end, you'll have strolled five miles (that's approximately 10,000 steps for you FitBit-ers) and have learned about the intricacies of the city, outside of the historical stuff, that is. The group breaks for lunch at the Italian Market, and even though you might want to give in to temptation and grab a slice or a cheesesteak, don't: Nosh on fresh fish at Anastasi Seafood, some Middle Eastern fare from Al Zaytouna, or soup and salad from Sabrina's Cafe. The tour ends at Reading Terminal Market, so there is your chance to pick up some fresh produce.

Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 8th and Walnut Streets. Pay-what-you-wish. freetoursbyfoot.com/philadelphia-tours
