Beer fest, 'The Office' Quizzo, Presidents' Day weekend, and other great happenings in Philadelphia, Feb. 16-23

Explore the National Constitution Center for free on Monday in honor of Black History Month. Visitors will learn about key milestones in African American history in the museum's The Story of We exhibition, and also will dive into history surrounding the Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil War, and the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. Afterward, those of all ages are invited to test their knowledge on the museum's interactive giant game board.

Score pay-what-you-wish admission through the extended weekend at the National Liberty Museum, starting Saturday. The museum invites those of all ages to explore its exhibitions and learn about the role that our nation's leaders have played in shaping the past, present, and future of freedom. Special interactive activities like presidential trivia will be hosted on select days.

The Year of the Dog kicks off on Feb. 16, ushering in a ton of Chinese New Year celebrations here in Philly. On Sunday, head to Chinatown for a grand daytime parade celebration with the Philadelphia Suns starting at 11 a.m. at 10th and Race Streets. Lions and dragons will dance across the neighborhood, traveling through parts of Arch, Cherry, and Winter Streets and along 9th, 10th, and 11th Streets.

"The only time I set the bar low is for limbo," said the great Michael Scott. Bring your A game and head out to World Cafe Live on Sunday, where they'll be setting the bar high during two special sessions of The Office-themed Quizzo. Those who dress as their favorite characters from the hit TV show will be entered into a costume contest, and Quizzo winners will be eligible for prizes, including a $100 gift card.

With cold and flu season in full swing, there's no better time than now to fuel up on immune-boosting nourishment. Step into the kitchen on Sunday with Kelly McCarthy, a clinical herbalist and educator, to learn about the medicinal properties of ingredients ranging from garlic to ginger to rosemary and thyme. McCarthy will conduct a workshop at Bartram's Garden, where you'll learn to make a "fire cider" using some of these items. At the end of the session, you'll head home with a jar of cider to drink and take home.

Take a few hours on Saturday and lend a hand to the Books Through Bars program, a nonprofit that brings free books to incarcerated people in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and New York state. As a volunteer you will read through inmates' letters and choose books that match their requests, and help package books for mailing. This event is limited to those age 18 and over. Can't go? Bring your kids (ages 7 to 11) out to Legends Ballpark for the ultimate dodgeball battle on Friday. Teams will go head-to-head using no-sting, foam dodgeballs, creating a friendly and worry-free competitive environment. Before Cardi B. grabbed the mic and before Remy Ma found comeback salvation, it was K. Michelle who was the breakout singing-rapping star of VH1's Love & Hip Hop and all of its spinoffs. Always at the piano (that is, when she wasn't dealing with messy personal dramas with the rest of the cast), Michelle was mostly away from the fray, concentrating on her boisterous voice and a soul-hop career that covers four albums since 2013, including her most recent record Kimberly: The People I Used to Know. The forthright songs belie the youth of Phoebe Bridgers and Soccer Mommy's Sophie Allison. Los Angeles' Bridgers, 23, caught the attention of Ryan Adams, who released her debut single in 2015. She's toured with both Julien Baker and Conor Oberst, the latter of whom also contributes a duet on Bridgers' debut full-length, last fall's Stranger in the Alps. Nashville's Allison, 20, has been releasing music on Bandcamp as Soccer Mommy since 2015 (last year's Collection drew from these). Clean, Soccer Mommy's official debut, is due March 2. While both singers are emotionally direct, Bridgers draws more from the restrained singer-songwriter tradition while Soccer Mommy, on songs like "Your Dog" and "Last Girl," veers toward indie rock. Wednesday's sold-out show is a smart pairing of smart songwriters. — Steve Klinge

So maybe the most recent Bone Thugs-n-Harmony album — 2017's New Waves — hosts only two original Harmonists in Krayzie Bone and Bizzy Bone. And maybe they've strayed into pop and EDM. Back in the day — and before any Kanye/Twista hyper-fast rhymes — Bone Thugs-n-Harmony made their mark with its fast-rapping, unified singing style to go with its caramel-coated blend of R&B and hip-hop. Expect all of the above in Ardmore on Thursday night, along with the salty-but-sweet tones of Philadelphia rapper Chill Moody. — A.D.A.
