35th District Philadelphia police, community members do the “Nae Nae”

While the Philadelphia Police Department usually makes these type of headlines for their strange, nostalgia-laden viral videos, this time around is a little different — and it’s all thanks to the “Nae Nae.”

While the Philadelphia Police Department usually makes these type of headlines for their strange, nostalgia-laden viral videos, this time around is a little different — and it's all thanks to the "Nae Nae."

Police officers from the 35th District recently came together with members of their local community to perform a very Philly rendition of the "Nae Nae," the latest dance craze that comes to us from hip-hop artist Silentó.

Organized by Sgt. Jovania Perkins, the video served as a way to "create and maintain a connection with the community," Captain Derrick E. Wood told 6ABC:

The 35th District is greatly involved with the community. We have had several events in which we try to create and maintain a connection with the community. My administrative Sergeant, Jovania Perkins, thought it would be fun and asked me if we could do the song, "The Nae Nae", with officers from the 35th District, some of the members of the community, and with some of the firefighters (since they are adjacent to the 35th District). I thought it was an amazing idea and was on board every step of the way.

Cpt. Wood went on to say that everyone "had a great time" making the video, which "left a lasting impression on the officers."

Oddly enough, however, the beloved Narrator behind the PPD's Facebook page wasn't involved in this one. And, what's more, the Narrator claims that he just didn't have the moves to participate:

Which, of course, is just fine — we can't all be dancers. After all, someone has to come up with weird memes.
