Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer on 'Broad City's' future: “We’re really trying to keep an empire going,”

It's been a while since we heard from Wayne native Abbi Jacobson and her comedy partner Ilana Glazer, but rest assured that the duo is hard at work "trying to keep an empire going" through Broad City.
Katie Couric recently caught up with the Comedy Central stars and talked everything from the pair's famous "micro impressions," to their comedic physicality, and the position they hold as female role models in the entertainment world.
"The show's being praised for having a strong female friendship," Jacobson said of her and Glazer's dynamic. "And it's like, that should be everywhere… why is that not the norm? It's kind of ridiculous."
And with Broad City having already been renewed for a third season, there's all the more opportunity to establish that "strong female friendship" as the norm in entertainment. That, and the opportunity for more great physical comedy, which often serves as a centerpiece for Broad City.
"I think we have very different physical comedy," Jacobson told Couric. "Mine would be a weird, insecure [physical comedy] where I just fall all over the place. But Ilana did gymnastics as a kid. And so she can just do a handspring up on a wall."
Ultimately, however, the Broad City gals know their first foray into network comedy cannot last forever, and as a result are keeping an eye on the future — all while building on the success they've seen so far.
"We're really trying to keep an empire going," Glazer said. "I mean, Broad City's not going to last forever. But there's the next step after that for sure."
And that next step, it would seem, is Broad City's highly anticipated third season, which hits the small screen early in 2016. Just try and hold on until then.
