Amber Rose addresses use of her image in alleged prostitution scam

South Philly native Amber Rose is “extremely outraged” at the use of her likeness by a company to allegedly lure young women into prostitution.

South Philly native Amber Rose is "extremely outraged" at the use of her likeness by a company to allegedly lure young women into prostitution.

"I'm all for women empowerment and to see something like that, it made me really sad because I always wanted to be a model when I was young," she said on The Doctors today. "I was young and easily manipulated, just like these girls."

News of the alleged use of Rose's image in the scheme broke earlier this week, with an applicant indicating that a company had tried to scam her into agreeing to sex work after she responded to a social media posting that sought models "for a paid celebrity photoshoot."

Respondents were then told that Rose would help select the final candidates, and that they would need to schedule a FaceTime call with her. That call was allegedly built around video taken from Rose's Ustream account in order to make it appear legitimate.

Rose says she learned of the scam following being tagged in a screenshot of the video on Instagram.

"If you are getting hit up by an account that is not verified, or you are not actually meeting that person, you have to know that this is a scam," she said.

The LAPD is currently investigating the incident.
