Public Enemy MC Chuck D recently weighed in on the public response to the ongoing Bill Cosby controversy, saying that the anti-Cosby backlash is "akin to Nazi book burning."
The hip-hop legend addressed the situation on Twitter over the weekend, beginning with the element of "character assassination" he sees developing following dozens of sexual assault allegations against the comedian this year:
He then went on to provide Marvin Gaye as an example, bizarrely asking readers if they would stop listening to his records due to "pedophilia":
Still, though, D was adamant that he has no intention of defending Cosby himself, just his legacy. To further his point, he references Phil Spector, the legendary music producer convicted of second-degree murder in 2009. Not before comparing the Cosby backlash to "Nazi book burning," though:
But despite all the backlash D's tweets have caused since their posting, it appears that the beloved rapper may just have been bored at the time:
Cosby has never been charged with a crime in connection to the allegations against him. Most recently, 2005 court documents were unsealed revealing Cosby's admission that he had obtained Quaaludes to give to women for sex.
