'Condé Nast Traveler' ranks Philly no. 2 best shopping city

The emphasis of last year’s Philadelphia Fashion Collection centered on our city’s rapidly up-and-coming shopping scene. With the almost simultaneous addition of higher-end retail stores like The Gallery’s Century 21 and Nordstrom Rack on Chestnut Street, and the affordable international chain Uniqlo, it’s not hard to recognize Philly as a shopper's paradise.

The emphasis of last year's Philadelphia Fashion Collection centered on our city's rapidly up-and-coming shopping scene. With the almost simultaneous addition of higher-end retail stores like The Gallery's Century 21 and Nordstrom Rack on Chestnut Street, and the affordable international chain Uniqlo, it's not hard to recognize Philly as a shopper's paradise.

Condé Nast Traveler seems to agree. Based on the opinions of Condé Nast Traveler readers, Philadelphia ranked number two out of the 24 "Best Shopping Cities in the World."

Reading Terminal Market and independent 3rd Street shops like Sugarcube and Minima got shoutouts, as well as an extra tout for the city's renowned historical experience. "You could max out your credit card just sampling the foodstuff from the hundred-plus merchants, but don't forget about the stalls selling books, home decor, and textiles," Condé Nast Traveler says of Reading Terminal.

Snagging the second spot on this international shopping list is no small feat. Beat only by Barcelona, Spain, Philly ranked above well-known shopping destinations like London, Tokyo and New York City. Other U.S. cities on the list included Chicago, which came in at number four, Honolulu and Portland.

This international acclaim comes on the heels of last week's accomplishment when the City of Brotherly Love was ranked number three on the New York Times "52 Places to Go in 2015" list.
