Oarfish, the longest bony fish around, can reach lengths of up to 50 feet. Whenever they washed ashore in the 19th century, people often assumed that they were sea serpents. We have a slightly better understanding of them today, but recordings of them alive and in the wild are very rare.

This is one of the few we have, and it is awesome. It was shot using a remotely operated underwater vehicle in the Gulf of Mexico. Skip right to the five-minute mark if you want to get up close and personal with the fish. [Deep Sea News on Youtube]
