LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - Saturday night was a good night for Martin Freeman fans. Along with hosting "Saturday Night Live," the actor combined two of his best known roles -- pint-sized Bilbo Baggins from "The Hobbit" trilogy and Tim Canterbury from BBC's "The Office."
Being a hero doesn't always pay the bills. We learn that Baggins has found himself working at a paper company -- a tame job compared to his last adventures -- and now drives a Jetta.
"Umm, what have I been up to?" Freeman explained in an "Office"-style interview. "I went on a quest and saved Middle-earth. I became a bit of a hero. Did the noble thing and turned down loads of treasure. Yeah, so the brave Hobbit Bilbo Baggins now works at a paper company."
Bobby Moynihan played Gandalf, who serves as Baggins' boss at the paper company, and his co-workers include Gollum, played by Taram Killam. At least Baggins gets some joy in his day from pranking Gollum, putting a ring in a plate of Jell-O.
"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies," starring Freeman as the famous Baggins, will hit theaters Dec. 17. Watch the "SNL" clip below.
