Taylor Swift shares that her mom has cancer via Tumblr

On Thursday morning Taylor Swift broke the news to her followers that her mother, Andrea Finlay, has cancer.

Swift tweeted out her post from Tumblr, a blogging website she often uses to communicate with her fans, entitled "Just so you know…" and detailed how she and her family discovered her mother's diagnosis.

"For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine. She agreed, and went in to get checked," she began. "The results came in, and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer."

Swift went on to say she'd prefer to keep the details about her mother's specific condition and treatments private but said her mother wanted Swift's fans to know.

"[My mom] wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle… Or peace of mind in knowing that they're healthy and there's nothing to worry about," Swift wrote.

Finlay, a Pennsylvania native, is 57 years old and is the mother of 25-year-old Taylor and her brother, Austin Swift, 23.
