Flood alerts as skies empty
A flood warning has been issued for parts of South Jersey, along with region-wide flood advisory.
The region is inching closer to the 75-year-old June rainfall record, with yet more rounds of soaking rains under way.
Just between 1 and 3 p.m., over 0.86 inches of rain fell at Philadelphia International Airport, bringing the monhly total to 8.21. The June record is 10.06, set in 1938.
The National Weather Service warned of rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches an hour on both sides of the river, prompting flash-flood warnings.
Valley Creek near Valley Forge shot up in a hurry, and flood warning is in effect for that area until 5:45 p.m.
A warning is in effect until 5:15 p.m. for Camden, Burlington, Gloucester, Salem, and parts of Cumblerland Counties.
Showers are expected to continue into the night.
