Freeze gets deeper

Freeze warnings now cover the entire region and deep into Delmarva; sleet reported in western suburbs.

Between 3 and 9 p.m., the official Philadelphia temperature dropped 27 degrees, from 69 to 42, and is headed for the upper 20s.

As we noted, assuming that happens, that would represent the latest reading of 32 or below in Philadelphia in 20 years.

The National Weather Service has extended the freeze warning for tomorrow morning all the way to the Shore, and through most of the Delmarva Peninsula.

In addition, a "freeze watch" has been posted for Thursday morning.

In the wake of the front that has pushed through the region, temperatures are plunging, some sleet was reported west of the city, and shortly after 9, radar showed a patch of snow approaching Chester County.

The bulk of the rain, however, should be over. Some areas reported over 1.5 inches, with over 2 in Glenmoore, Chester County.

Wind gusts of 50 m.p.h. were measured in Philadelphia and Glassboro, with a 49 m.p.h. gust in Wimington.

A flood warning is in effect for the East Branch Brandywine Creek below Downingtown until 2:33 am. (wow, that's pretty precise), and until 2:45 along the East Branch Perkiomen, where minor flooding is anticipated.

It looks like it will be awhile before we see the 70s again.
