Frost line moves south

Frost advisory now extends into South Jersey; record low possible.

As temperatures plunge toward a record, freeze advisories now are in effect overnight for western Chester and Montgomery and upper Bucks Counties, and portions of Burlington, Cumberland, Ocean, and Atlantic Counties in the Garden State.

Philadelphia isn't in the advisory zones, but the updated forecast calls for a low of 40 at Philadelphia International Airport, which would tie the record for the date set in 1996.

Elsewhere, this could be a tough time to be a plant with temperatures forecast to fall linto the 30s, with pockets of frost expected. The lowest temperatures are likely between 2 a.m. and daybreak.

So far, the highest reading we've seen from the airport has been 56. That's well above the record-low maximum, but it's 17 degrees below the normal for the date, and the first time since April 29 that the temperature failed to reach at least 60.

The cool spell isn't going to last. This is May, and Thursday's highs may make a run at 80.
