Heat back on, but only briefly
It may feel like 100 tomorrow; but then the heat should ease.
The air feels like water-vapor soup, the official Philadelphia temperature has reached 90 for the 37th time this year, and it's about to get hotter.
The National Weather Service has hoisted a "heat advisory" for tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with heat index values expected to approach 100 during the afternoon.
But this should be a one-day wonder, and right now the weekend is looking warm but splendid.
And if the government longer-range forecast holds, the region may be getting a longer break from extreme heat. The Climate Prediction Center is calling for near-normal temperatures over the next two weeks.
As noted, however, even a "normal" August would result in this becoming the warmest meteorological summer on record in Philadelphia.
