Rain sets record

With latest downpours, this becomes wettest June ever in Philly.

The final official numbers aren't yet available, but evidentally June 2013 has become the wettest June on record in Philadelphia in 142 years of recordkeeping.

With today's rush-hour downpour, 0.43 inches was measured at Philadelphia International Airport between 5 and 6 p.m.

As of 5 p.m., the June total stood at 9.64 inches.

Our simple calculation puts the June total at 10.07 inches, a lusty 0.01 about the old record of 10.06, set in 1938.

Perhaps fearing a recount, the atmosphere wrung out an additional 0.12 between 6 and 7 atop the official rain gauge. That would bring the June 2013 total to 10.19.

The downpours have set off flash-flood warnings for parts of the region.
