The Lawyer Pays the Nun

This is the body copy

He didn't make his $5,000 fund-raising goal, but local lawer Adam Getson still made the day of Sister Mary Lydon, when he handed her checks this week totaling $2,470, to finance the Food Pantry and Used Clothing Room she runs out a basement space at St. Cyprian Roman Catholic Church at 525 S. Cobbs Creek Pkwy.

"I've gotten a lot of e-mails from people who say their checks are in the mail, so I'm looking forward to giving those to Sister Mary, too," says Adam, a trial attorney at Wapner Newman.

Since I blogged about Adam and Sister Mary last week, Adam says he's been contacted by a number of people eager to help him help Sister Mary, who relies entirely on donations to run her mission of the heart.

Among the donors are an individual who made a single gift of $250; an original donor who donated again, after reading the blog; and a soldier stationed in Iraq, who read about Sister Mary and was worried she wouldn't be able to get a check to Sister in time for Christmas.

Two funny things have happened to Adam, since his face appeared on this blog:

A man stopped him at Cosi, when Adam was with clients, to say he recognized his face and that he and his wife would soon send a donation to the cause.

"It was strange to be recognized," says Adam.

And a female reader contcted Adam to let him know she thought he was handsome and to ask if he was single and maybe available for a date.

"That was pretty funny," says Adam, who has a girlfriend but was flattered nonetheless by the inquiry.

To support Sister Mary's cause, make a check payable to Sister Mary Lydon and mail it to:
