Delta second U.S. airline to offer inflight Internet

Delta tomorrow becomes the second airline to offer Gogo Inflight Internet service on board a handful of its jets. You stilll can't talk on your cell phone -- something that, as we reported in last week's column,  will please many readers. But you will be able to send and receive e-mail and text messages, and surf the Web, on five MD-88 jets and one 757. The service will cost $9;95 for flights of less than three hours, and $12.95 for flights over three hours. The first two weeks -- meaning from now until after Christmas -- it will be free. Read all that Delta and AirCell, provider of the technology, want you to know in their news release,.

American was the first major U.S. carrier to offer a similar service, starting last summer. Both airlines plan to expand the capabilities to hundreds of additional jets in their fleets. Several other airlines expect to join the parade next year as well.
