More tests of exotic fuel sources for jets

Three weeks ago, I reported on a Continental Airlines experimental flight using algae and jatropha oil mixed with jet fuel to power a 737. As I mentioned, other carriers are doing their own tests, including one by Japan Airlines. Here's a good roundup with some of the same information I had on Jan. 12 and more on the Japanese test from that all-online newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor.

In addition, the Air Transport Association, the industry trade group that's mentioned in the Jan. 12 column, today hailed an Obama administration decision to release $25 million in Energy Department funds for research and development of biofuels, including those for aviation. If we find more information on the DOE action we'll post it.
