FDA approves FluMist for children 2 to 5 years old

AstraZeneca P.L.C.'s FluMist, the nasal-spray influenza vaccine, was approved in the United States for children 2 to 5 years old, the Food and Drug Administration said yesterday.

Sales of FluMist reached $36 million last year. But the FDA had limited it to healthy people ages 5 to 49. AstraZeneca, which has its U.S. headquarters in Wilmington, estimates that 5 million more children are now eligible to take the vaccine, which costs $17.95 in a doctor's office.
