William H. Shea Jr. was elected to the board of Penn Virginia Corp., Radnor, a publicly held independent natural gas and oil company focused on the exploration, acquisition, development and production of reserves. He was the chairman, chief executive officer and president of the general partner of Buckeye Partners L.P., Breinigsville.
The Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, a nonprofit cultural and educational organization, elected Gerard P. Cuddy and David R. White to its board of trustees. Cuddy is president of Beneficial Savings Bank, Philadelphia. White is senior vice president of global supply chain for Campbell Soup Co., Camden.
AVAX Technologies Inc., Philadelphia, a publicly held biotechnology company with operations in the United States and Europe, appointed François Martelet to the board. Most recently, he was vice president and global franchise head, oncology, of Merck & Co. Inc., Whitehouse Station, N.J. He has also served in various senior officer positions within units of Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Schering-Plough International, Eli Lilly & Co. and F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG.
NutriSystem Inc., Horsham, a provider of weight management and fitness products and services, named Michael F. Devine 3d to its board. He is senior vice president and chief financial officer of Coach Inc., New York. With Devine's election, the board has eight members, including seven nonmanagement directors. Devine will also serve on the Audit Committee.
The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, a nonprofit cultural organization, named Sally J. Bellet and Anthony A. Ibargüen to its board. Bellet is president of the Stein/Bellet Foundation, Philadelphia. Ibargüen is chief executive officer of Alliance Consulting Group, Villanova.
Robert Nix was named to the board of trustees at the Center for Literacy, Philadelphia, a community-based nonprofit organization. He is principal at Phoenix Strategies L.L.C., Philadelphia.
Frank S. Guarrieri, managing partner of Curtin & Heefner L.L.P., Morrisville, Pa., was named chairman of the board of trustees of Holy Ghost Preparatory School, Bensalem.
The Building Owners' and Managers' Association of Philadelphia elected new officers and board members. Theresa McCaul-Mullan was named chair. She is general manager of Ten Penn Center, Philadelphia, for Grubb & Ellis Management. Richard McClure was named vice chair. He is general manager of the Aramark Tower, Philadelphia, for Kennedy Wilson Property Ltd. Donald S. Haas was named treasurer. He is operations manager of the Bell Atlantic Tower, Philadelphia, for Cushman & Wakefield of Pennsylvania. Glenn Winkler was named secretary. He is property manager of 1515 Market St., Philadelphia, for Jones Lang LaSalle Americas Inc.

Trish Faidiga is president of Advantage Building & Facility Services, West Chester. Stephen Olenik is director of business development, Northeast region, at Belfor USA, Exton. Michele O'Keefe is property manager at Brandywine Realty Trust, Southern New Jersey Offices, Mount Laurel. The Building Owners & Managers Association of Philadelphia represents more than 450 members who own or manage about 100 million square feet of commercial properties or provide services and supplies to buildings in the tri-state area.
John Beilenson was named chairman of Surrey Services for Seniors, Berwyn, a nonprofit senior services organization. He is president of Strategic Communications & Planning, Wayne. He succeeds Parker Blatchford.
The Delaware Valley Society of Association Executives, Philadelphia, named Lawrence S. Caniglia president. He is executive director, Northeast Spa and Pool Association, Morganville, N.J. Michael Taylor, executive director of the National Demolition Association, Doylestown, was named vice president. Victoria Elliott, senior account executive at Association Headquarters Inc., Mount Laurel, was named secretary and treasurer.

Eastern University, St. Davids, named Bruce Brown to its board of trustees. He is retired vice president for charitable trusts, CoreStates Bank. Jacob Chatman, senior pastor of Pinn Memorial Baptist Church; Albert G. Davis Jr., senior pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, and Alyn E. Waller, pastor of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, also have joined the board.
Zara K. Davis was appointed to the Philadelphia regional board of Summer Search, a national leadership development program focused on helping low-income young people graduate from high school, go to college, create successful careers, and give back to society. She is an associate in the environmental litigation and petroleum industry practice groups at Archer & Greiner P.C., Haddonfield.
George F. West, professor and former president of Delaware Valley College, was appointed to the board of Livengrin Foundation Inc., Bensalem, which provides substance-abuse treatment.
Andrew Reder was elected to the Bryn Mawr Hospital board of trustees. He is a managing partner and financial adviser at Kistler-Tiffany L.L.C., Wayne.
