Miracle

(8-11 p.m., 6ABC) - As hockey coach Herb Brooks, who steered the 1980 U.S. hockey team in its Olympic upset over the U.S.S.R., Kurt Russell is poetry in motivation.

Failure To Launch

(8-10 p.m., TNT) - Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker are the mismatched leads in this ostensible romantic comedy about a 35-year-old hunk who still lives with his parents and the consultant who is hired to seduce him into moving out.

Waiting to Exhale

(9-11:30 p.m., BRAVO) - Four fine-looking women sit around talking. This in itself may not be enough for a good movie, but as the women are Angela Bassett, Whitney Houston, Loretta Devine and Lela Rochon, it is more than enough for a good time. Adapted by Terry McMillan and Ron Bass from McMillan's best seller. Directed by Forrest Whitaker.

The Golden Compass

(9-11 p.m., HBO) - A smartly realized adaptation of Philip Pullman's trilogy about a feisty girl with special powers (and a special compass), coping with child-abducting evildoers, flying witches, and talking bears in a 19th-century steampunk parallel universe. Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott and Nicole Kidman are among the grown-ups in this fantastical world.
