PPL Corp., the Allentown utility company, has named retired financial-services executive Natica von Althann to its board. She most recently was the senior credit risk management executive for U.S. Trust/Bank of America Corp.

The San Miguel School of Camden, a Catholic and Lasallian school educating middle-school boys at little or no cost to their families, has named the following to its board:

Robert Spires, director of fund operations for UFCW Local 152 and associate at Frank M. Vaccaro & Associates Inc., Mount Laurel, was named chairman.

Jeffrey Caccese is a lawyer at O'Brien, Belland & Bushinsky, Cherry Hill.

James Dolan is president of Dolan Mechanical Inc., Sicklerville.

Gerald Fitzgerald is assistant professor of accounting at La Salle University.

Michael T. Gillespie Jr. was appointed vice chairman. He is vice president of client services for Gillespie Group.

Dynasil Corp. of America, a publicly held West Berlin manufacturer of specialized instruments and photonic products for homeland security/defense and medical and industrial uses, has announced that Michael Joyner and David Kronfeld have been nominated for the company's board. Joyner is associate dean for research at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., deputy director for research, associate program director of the Center of Translational Science Activities, and a consultant to the Department of Anesthesiology. Kronfeld founded JK&B Capital, a Chicago venture capital firm focused on the software, IT, and communications markets.

Carl M. Buchholz and Karen Dougherty Buchholz have been named co-chairs of the American Heart Association's annual Heart Ball at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott on Feb. 20. Buchholz is managing partner and chief executive officer of Blank Rome L.L.P., Philadelphia. Dougherty Buchholz is vice president of administration at Comcast Corp., Philadelphia. The black-tie event will raise money for heart-disease research and education and honor those who are committed to reducing disability and death from cardiovascular disease and stroke.

John Hannah has been elected to the board of SMITH The Kids' Play Place in the Park, a nonprofit children's playground in East Fairmount Park. He is managing director of Marsh Inc., Philadelphia.

Charisse R. Lillie has been appointed to the board of Peco Energy Co., the Philadelphia utility company. She is vice president of community investment for Comcast Corp., and executive vice president of the Comcast Foundation. She also was a partner in the law firm of Ballard Spahr L.L.P., Philadelphia.

Met-Pro Corp., a Harleysville company that makes product-recovery, pollution-control, and fluid-handling equipment, has appointed Robin L. Wiessmann to its board, following the retirement of Alan Lawley. Wiessmann, a veteran of public finance and investment banking, most recently was state treasurer of Pennsylvania. She was a founding principal and president of Artemis Capital Group Inc., a broker-dealer investment banking firm.

Project Management Institute, an international Newtown Square professional membership organization for project managers, has elected Eugene Bounds to its board and named him chairman for 2010. He is a senior vice president at Booz Allen Hamilton Inc., where he is an economic business analysis functional leader.

John G. Koch has been elected to the board of the Philadelphia Mountain Biking Association, a nonprofit organization. Koch is a member the litigation and environmental departments of Flaster/Greenberg P.C., Philadelphia.

Julia Swain, a partner in the Family Law Practice Group at Fox Rothschild L.L.P., has been elected to the editorial board of the Philadelphia Bar Reporter, the monthly newspaper of the Philadelphia Bar Association.

Mike Giessmann has been named to the board of MANNA, a Philadelphia nonprofit group devoted to bringing nutrition and other services to individuals and families living with life-threatening illnesses. He is director of financial planning and business analysis at Peco Energy Co., Philadelphia.

Anthony E. Gay, assistant general counsel at Peco Energy Co., has joined the board of Steppingstone Scholars Inc., a Philadelphia nonprofit education organization that prepares inner-city children for the region's premier college preparatory schools.

Nicolette Daniels has joined the board for the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, Philadelphia. She is operations coordinator and executive assistant to the vice president, Electric Operations, at Peco Energy Co.

The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has named Keith M. Gaspard to its board. Gaspard is managing director in the life sciences practice of Diversified Search Odgers Berndtson, Philadelphia, which specializes in senior executive search assignments with clients in the life sciences and advanced technology industries.
