The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia announced the appointment of James E. Nevels, Deborah M. Fretz, and Aaron L. Groff Jr. to the board of directors. Nevels is chairman and founder of the Swarthmore Group, a Philadelphia investment advisory firm. He is also the nonexecutive chairman of the board of the Hershey Co. Fretz is president and CEO of Sunoco Logistics Partners L.P. Groff is chairman, president, and CEO of Ephrata National Bank.

to the board of directors. Nevels is chairman and founder of the Swarthmore Group, a Philadelphia investment advisory firm. He is also the nonexecutive chairman of the board of the Hershey Co. Fretz is president and CEO of Sunoco Logistics Partners L.P. Groff is chairman, president, and CEO of Ephrata National Bank.

They will begin their terms as directors Jan. 1.

Center City Proprietors Association, a nonprofit Philadelphia business advocacy and education organization, has elected the following officers and board members for 2009-10:

Linda Karp, president of Karp Marketing, president.

David P. Carter, president/owner of Scramjet Strategies, vice president.

Joe Wolf, retail director of the Market & Shops at Comcast Center, secretary.

Paul Steinke, general manager of Reading Terminal Market, treasurer.

Named to the board:

Kristie Bergey, owner of the KB Experience.

Ellen Davis, owner of FruitFlowers.

Neal Herzog, owner of Sign-A-Rama Center City.

Melissa J. Oretsky has been elected to a three-year term on the Young Friends of the Philadelphia Museum of Art Executive Board. She is a senior associate at Reed Smith L.L.P. and concentrates her practice on complex commercial litigation and products-liability litigation.

The Elite Companies Charitable Foundation, an Exton nonprofit serving families facing economic, educational, social and medical challenges, named three new members to its board. Burroughs Mack is executive director of Family Service of Chester County. Richard Rumer is an associate vice president for business services for Temple University. Sonya Weigle is cofounder, senior vice president, corporate strategy and development for PRWT Services Inc.

Operation Understanding, a nonprofit organization that works to bring young African American and Jewish leaders to help build cultural bridges across the communities of Philadelphia, named Reed Lyons to its board. He is an associate in the real estate department at Blank Rome L.L.P. He also will chair the recruitment and student and group leader selection committee. Operation Understanding was established in 1985 by William H. Gray 3d, former U.S. representative and president of the United Negro College Fund, and George M. Ross, senior director of Goldman Sachs & Co. and former chairman of the board of the Philadelphia chapter of the American Jewish Committee.

The National Association of Catering Executives, a Columbia, Md., professional organization, has elected Tim Sudall event professional. He is owner of Video One Productions. David Reusche, national director of catering at Aramark, was named a member-at-large.

The Lupus Foundation of America, Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter, elected Joseph A. Arnold to chair the board for 2010. He is an associate with the Philadelphia law firm Cozen O'Connor. The national nonprofit health advocacy organization is dedicated to finding the causes of and cure for lupus, and provides support and services to people affected by the disease.
