Jim Ruggiero has been named a member of the board of the Planned Lifetime Assistance Network of Pennsylvania, a private nonprofit organization that serves adults 18 and older with mental disabilities. He is founder of Ruggiero Law Offices L.L.C., Paoli.

The Samaritan Hospice, a provider of hospice and palliative and other services, has named Michael T. Kornett to its board of trustees. He is CEO of the Medical Society of New Jersey, Lawrenceville.

The Wistar Institute, a biomedical research organization founded in 1892, named Douglas S. Briggs, Ronald L. Caplan, and Maida R. Milone to its board of trustees. Briggs is former president and chief executive officer of QVC Inc., West Chester. Caplan, a Philadelphia real estate developer, is the founder, president, and CEO of Philadelphia Management Corp. Milone is the CEO of the Philadelphia Art Alliance and had practiced law and managed nonprofit organizations for the previous 20 years, specializing in the pharmaceutical industry.

The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, a nonprofit cultural organization, has named the following to its board:

Marjorie R. Philips is managing director, market development at PSEG Energy Resources & Trade L.L.C., Newark.

Sheila Jacobs, a certified financial planner and CEO of Life & Money Consulting of Bucks County, was appointed treasurer of Urban Promise, a Camden nonprofit organization. She is also chairwoman of the board's finance committee.

Joseph M. Manko, a founding partner of Manko, Gold, Katcher & Fox L.L.P., Bala Cynwyd, has been elected to chairman of the Nominating Committee and a member of the Executive Committee of the board of the Fairmount Park Conservancy, which raises funds to help the city manage 9,200 acres in 63 parks throughout Philadelphia.

The Women's Resource Center, a Wayne private nonprofit organization serving women experiencing crisis or life transitions including abuse, homelessness, or job loss, has named the following officers and members to the board for 2010:
