The Foreign Policy Research Institute, a nonprofit education and foreign policy organization, has elected Dov S. Zakheim vice chairman of its board. Zakheim is vice president of Booz Allen Hamilton Inc., McLean, Va., and was undersecretary of defense and chief financial officer of the Defense Department from 2001 to 2004. Gwen Borowsky and Rocco L. Martino were named trustees. Martino founded XRT and CyberFone and was a professor of mathematics at New York University and a professor of systems engineering at the University of Waterloo in Canada. Borowsky is the chief executive officer of the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia.

Joe Croce has been named to the board of Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Philadelphia. He is senior vice president of sales at Comcast Spectacor L.P., Philadelphia.

Acsis Inc., a Marlton manufacturing software company, has appointed Marc Friend chairman of the board. He is chief financial officer of Intalio Inc., Palo Alto, Calif., and a venture partner with Saints Capital.

The Avenue of the Arts Inc., a nonprofit organization, has named Patricia Wellenbach chairwoman and Dianne Semingson vice chairwoman of the organization through 2011. Wellenbach is president and CEO of Sandcastle Strategy Group L.L.C. Semingson is founder and president of DLS International Inc., Philadelphia. Michael Halter, CEO of Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, was named to the board.

InterDigital Inc., a King of Prussia mobile-phone-equipment supplier, has named Terry Clontz chairman of the board. Clontz recently joined Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte. Ltd. as managing director for North America and Europe and was president and CEO of StarHub Ltd., Singapore.

Mario Zacharjasz has been named president of AIA Philadelphia, the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He is cofounder and principal of PZS Architects and president of Puente Construction Enterprises Inc., Philadelphia.

James W. Rowe, principal at Agoos/Lovera Architects Ltd., Philadelphia, is treasurer.

Variety - The Children's Charity of Greater Philadelphia, has named Troy Brown vice president. He is a partner in the Litigation Practice and is the coleader of the Commercial Litigation practice at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius L.L.P., Philadelphia.

Woods Services Foundation, a Langhorne provider of educational, residential, and vocational services to children and adults with disabilities, has named the following to its board of trustees:

Christopher R. Murray is cofounder of GaileyMurray.

Debbie Shartle was a commissioned officer in the Air Force and was Squadron Section Commander. Her son is enrolled at Woods.

Gerri R. Pozez is pursuing a master's degree in international affairs from Columbia University and is the third-generation member of her family to serve on the Woods board.

Rick Bortnick has been named to the board of Need in Deed Inc., a Philadelphia nonprofit educational organization. Bortnick is a lawyer in the global insurance group at Cozen O'Connor, Philadelphia.
