In response to the ongoing strike at Temple University Hospital, U.S. Congressman Bob Brady (D., Phila.) met with the leadership of the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals around noon Monday at the union's satellite office near the North Philadelphia hospital complex, said union executive director Bill Cruice.

Hospital management had reached out to the Democratic congressman, himself a union carpenter, who frequently intercedes in tough management-labor disputes, Cruice said.

The strike began at 7 a.m. on March 31 after Temple and the union failed to reach an agreement. The nurses, therapists, social workers and technicians had been working under terms of their old contract, which expired on Oct. 31.

Out on strike are 1,000 nurses and 500 allied professionals. The hospital has brought in replacement staffers and vows to keep the hospital running with all services available.
