Firstrust Bank and an affiliated family foundation donated $3 million toward the construction of a three-story apartment complex for low-income seniors in Elkins Park, the family-owned bank said Thursday.

The donation to the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia came from the bank and the Daniel B. and Florence E. Green Family Foundation. Other contributors were the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, the state of Pennsylvania, and Montgomery County Home Funds. Federal stimulus money brought total contributions for building the 84 one-bedroom units to nearly $20 million, the bank said.

The building on 5.2 acres will be named for Samuel A. Green, Daniel's father, who founded Firstrust in 1934.    - Harold Brubaker
