Fibrocell Science Inc., an Exton biotechnology company focused on developing regenerative cell therapy, has appointed Stefan Gruenwald to its scientific advisory board. A molecular and cellular biologist, Gruenwald has specialized in mergers and acquisitions within the life-sciences arena and cofounded Orbigen, a San Diego-based proteomics company in 2000. In 2004, Gruenwald played a leading role in negotiating the triple merger among Orbigen Inc., Biocarta, and Jingmei, the second-largest biotechnology reagent company in China at the time.

The Pennsylvania Ballet, Philadelphia, has elected Janis Lynn Goodman chairwoman of the board of trustees. She serves on the advisory board of the Field Center for Children's Policy, Practice & Research and the board of directors of the Alliance Française.

The following have been elected to the board:

Deborah Gill Hilzinger serves on the executive committee of the board of trustees of the Baldwin School and was recently appointed to the Alumnae Board of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of Columbia University.

Emily Kuhn is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Philadelphia Inc. and serves on the fund-raiser committees for Congregation Rodeph Shalom.

Karen A. Smith is a partner at Vinson & Elkins L.L.P.

Jon Weinstein is a partner at Pay Governance L.L.C.

Tracy Wenzinger volunteers as a tutor for WePAC (West Philadelphia Alliance for Children) and is a member of Impact 100 Philadelphia.

Gov. Rendell announced the confirmation of Wendy Beetlestone, shareholder at Hangley, Aronchick, Segal & Pudlin P.C., by the Pennsylvania Senate to the State Board of Education. She is chairwoman of the firm's Education Law Practice Group and a shareholder in the Litigation Group.

Avenue of the Arts Inc., the Philadelphia nonprofit organization that aims to reinvigorate the arts and entertainment on Broad Street, has elected Jon Hitchcock to its board. He is president and general manager of CBS3 and the CW57.

Bruce D. Armon has been named to the board of the Arts and Business Council of Greater Philadelphia. He is office managing partner for the Philadelphia office of Saul Ewing L.L.P. and a member of the Business and Finance Department.

The Cooper Health System board of trustees, Camden, has appointed pediatrician and health-care business leader John M. Tedeschi to its board. He is founder, chief executive officer, and chairman of the board of Continuum Health Alliance L.L.C. and Advocare L.L.C.

The Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia, has elected Peter Austen and Sandra McLean to its board. Austen is president of Willis of Pennsylvania Inc. and a regional partner with Willis North America Inc. McLean is executive director and trustee of the McLean Contributionship.

Terence J. Fox has been elected to the board of directors of the law firm Archer & Greiner P.C. Fox has been a lawyer with the firm since 1981 and a shareholder of the firm since 1989. He concentrates his practice in corporate and commercial-banking law.

Henri G. Moore has been appointed to the board of Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education Inc., Philadelphia, for a three-year term. She will also chair the nonprofit organization's 2011 fund-raising gala. She is senior vice president and director of public affairs at Citizens Bank.

The Brandywine Health Foundation, Coatesville, has appointed Mary T. Holleran and Denise D. James to its board. Holleran was the owner of Studio 3 in Downingtown for 29 years. James is marketing coordinator for Sara Lee Household & Beverage.

Leanne Caret is vice president of Rotorcraft Systems with the Boeing Co.

John Dawkins is president and CEO of Jo-Dan Enterprises/McDonald's Licensee.

Andrew Rose is vice president and general manager of Radio One Philadelphia.

Urban Land Institute (ULI) Philadelphia District Council, a nonprofit education and research institute for the use of land in the region, announced the appointment of eight new cochairs to the organization's first major council forums. The major council forums are responsible for developing ideas and programming around each of ULI Philadelphia's major initiatives and smaller events that take place throughout the year.

Steve Mullin, senior vice president and principal of Econsult Corp. and a lecturer at Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania, is Urban Issues Forum cochair.

Prema Gupta, director of planning and economic development at University City District, is Urban Issues Forum cochair.

Antonio Fiol-Silva, principal of Wallace, Roberts & Todd Design, and Joe Manko, partner at Manko, Gold, Katcher & Fox L.L.P., are Regional/Suburban Issues Forum cochairs.
