The Committee of Seventy, a nonpartisan organization advocating clean and effective government, fair elections, and a better-informed citizenry in the Philadelphia region, has elected Cristina Cavalieri and Michael G. Horsey to its board. Cavalieri is senior vice president, institutional and external affairs, university counsel, for Thomas Jefferson University. Horsey is managing partner at Mitchell & Titus L.L.P.

Gov. Corbett has named Anthony S. Bartolomeo to the Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission. The commission was created as part of Corbett's 2011-12 budget address to the General Assembly, and it seeks to address the needs and impact of natural gas development on local communities, as well as promote the efficient, environmentally sound, and cost-effective development of Marcellus Shale and other natural gas resources. Bartolomeo is president and chief executive officer of Pennoni Associates Inc., Philadelphia, and serves as chairman of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council.
Abington Health, the umbrella organization for its flagship hospitals and two outpatient facilities, has named the following officers to its board of trustees:

Robert P. Vogel, retired vice president and general counsel of Rohm & Haas Co., Philadelphia, is vice chairman.
Helen R. Bosley, president of Corporate Financial Management Inc., Yardley, is secretary.
Bruce E. Toll, founder and vice chairman of Toll Bros. Inc., Horsham, is treasurer.
Mary Stengel Austen, president and chief executive of Tierney, has been named the United Way's 2011 campaign chairwoman. J. Gordon Cooney Jr., managing partner of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius L.L.P.'s Philadelphia office, will be vice chairman.

The Haverford Trust Co., a private Radnor money-management firm, has named Leonard V. Santivasi to its board. He is a managing shareholder and director of Elko & Associates Ltd., a regional CPA firm in Media.
The Fredric Rieders Family Renaissance Foundation, a Willow Grove organization that offers programs to educate and train forensic scientists, has elected Shelly H. Carolan to its board. She is vice president, sales, marketing, and business development, at NMS Labs.
Philip A. Rutter has been appointed to the LGBT Youth Suicide Prevention Task Force of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, based in Washington. Rutter is an assistant professor in the human-sexuality graduate programs at Widener University in Chester and a counseling psychologist in Philadelphia.
Varsovia Fernandez, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, has been elected chairwoman of the board of trustees at Community College of Philadelphia.

William Kettleson, vice president of government and regulatory affairs for Comcast's Freedom Region, has been elected to the executive committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey. In his new role, Kettleson will be vice chairman of the chamber's government-action division, overseeing all government-relations activities for the organization, and will continue to be chairman of the communications and energy committee.

Back on My Feet, a nonprofit organization that promotes self-sufficiency of the homeless through its running-based program, has named Natalie Morales, Today host and national correspondent, to its national board of advisers.
J. Ferrelli, a partner in the Cherry Hill office of Duane Morris L.L.P., was appointed to the New Jersey State Bar Association's Nominating Committee and will serve a term as the board of trustees' representative from South Jersey. The nominating committee is charged with investigating, interviewing, evaluating, and recommending a slate of leadership candidates to the general NJSBA membership.
